This picture was taken at sunset—my favorite time of day. It’s when the day exhales, and you get to soak in the magic of Saint Lucia.
The island in the distance is Rat Island, a small uninhabited island just off our west coast. It was gifted to Sir Derek Walcott, Saint Lucia’s 2nd Nobel Prize winner, this time for Literature. There’s something poetic about it—quiet, enduring, and full of character—just like his work.
If you’re looking for a truly unforgettable experience, I recommend visiting Pigeon Island National Landmark and Fort Rodney. It’s one of our most treasured heritage sites, rich in history and offering panoramic views that will leave you breathless.
